On OSKO you can play without buying KC with a good clan team.

I can second that. Always done so and never got disappointed.

And yes server needs money: firewalls, hardware, software, backup software, router, switch and the list goes on, and it's damn expensive.

If you are hosting on someone else’s server then idk, but managing your own server, pfff a headache and a big challenge.
